Instructions For Reverse Headgear

How long do I need to wear the Reverse Headgear?

Wear for a minimum of 12-14 hours including sleeping (this is the most important time). Add on the hours in the day time to make up to 12-14 hours. It can be worn during homework or during movie-watching.

Extra hours of wear will only speed up treatment and will not be detrimental. Weekends are excellent times to catch up lost hours or gain extra headgear wear time.

Overall treatment is usually 9 months- depending on the severity of the bite and how much your jaws and bone grow over time.

What to expect after wearing the Reverse Headgear?

The teeth will feel sore or tender for the first few days.

Please go on soft diet if so. Mild painkiller may be taken if needed.

Sleeping will be different at first until you get used to sleeping with the headgear on your face.

My Reverse Headgear is irritating my chin. What can I do?

If the pad is worn out, you can replace with the spare pad provided. The forehead pad can also be modified to be used for the chin if needed as only one pair of spares will be given and no pads are sold separately.

Usually the chin will bear the most pressure. Therefore, it may become red and inflamed. Apply some moisturizer.

If skin abrasion is seen on the chin, please apply a plaster on the abrasion before wearing the reverse headgear.

What if my appliance inside the mouth become loose?

If the appliance becomes loose or bent, discontinue its wear and call our clinic for repair.
